Onto Oculus Quest 2

There’s a couple of initial setup steps you’ll need to complete first in order to use SideQuest on any platform. This is all just a one-time setup action – you won’t need to do this every time you want to sideload something, only the first time.

Step 1: Register as a developer on the Oculus account associated with your Quest 2.

In order to use your Quest 2 in Developer Mode (which is required for sideloading), you’ll need to register as a developer organization first.

Visit this page: https://dashboard.oculus.com/organizations/create/ and make sure you’re logged into the same Oculus account that your Quest 2 is registered to. Enter a new organization name and tick the ‘I understand’ box to agree to the Oculus Terms of Service.

Step 2: Enable Developer Mode on your Quest 2 via Oculus Mobile App.

Now that you’re registered as a developer, you’ll be able to enable Developer Mode on your Quest 2. You can do this through the Oculus mobile app, with the phone that is linked to your Oculus account/your Oculus Quest 2.

Open the Oculus app on your phone, with your Quest 2 turned on so it can connect to the app.
Tap ‘Settings’ in the bottom right
Locate your Oculus Quest 2 listed in the Settings tab, and make sure it reads ‘Connected. (If the app can’t connect to your Quest 2, you may need to tap on the Quest 2 in settings to try and manually make the app connect. If it still can’t connect, make sure your Quest 2 is turned on, and your phone has Bluetooth and WiFi turned on as well)
Tap on the arrow button next to your device, to reveal more options
Tap the ‘More Settings’ button
Tap on ‘Developer Mode’
Toggle On instead of Off
Fully reboot your Quest 2 – hold down the power button on the side and select ‘Power Off’ or ‘Restart’. You Quest 2 should fully reboot in order to properly start in Developer Mode.
After rebooting, your Quest 2 should be in Developer Mode.

Step 3: Download & Install SideQuest Download the install file for your operating system.

Run the installer, which will install SideQuest and the necessary drivers you need for sideloading. Download it here: https://sidequestvr.com/download

Step 4: Make sure you have a USB cord to connect your Quest 2 to your computer.

The charging cord that ships with the Quest 2 is the small reversible USB-C connector on both ends. If your computer has a USB-C port, you can use that. If not, you’ll need more equipment. For a without USB-C port, you could use a USB C to A cord / a USB C to A adapter, to use with the Quest 2’s cable.

Step 5: Allow USB debugging between your computer and your Quest 2

This should also be a one-time setup step, if done properly.

Open SideQuest on your computer.
Turn on your Quest 2 and set up a guardian.
Plug your Quest 2 into your computer via usb cord.
Inside your Quest 2 (not on your computer) you should see a request to “Allow USB debugging.”
If you don’t want to have to press OK on this screen every time you plug your Quest 2 into your computer, make sure the ‘Always allow from this computer’ box is ticked.
Press OK. Congratulations! Your Quest 2 and PC should now be set up to easily sideload apps via SideQuest.
The top left side of SideQuest should show a green dot and say “connected” after the SideQuest version number (see below for reference).

If SideQuest has a red dot and says ‘disconnected’ or ‘unauthorized’, double check that your Quest is on, connected properly and you completed all of the setup steps properly (especially the USB debugging permission steps).

Some notes: All of the steps above should be a one-time process for the computer and Quest. However, if you want to use a different computer, you will need to install SideQuest and allow USB debugging for that device. (Redo the whole Step 5: Allow USB debugging between your computer and your Quest 2)

NEW! Step 6:

In SideQuest home page, with the name or tags uDream, uDream Pro, uDream Pro VR, OSIM, OSIM VR. Click on the results “uDream Pro VR”.
On the “uDream Pro VR” app page, click “INSTALL TO HEADSET”
At the bottom, it will have a message that says “Starting app install…”. At the top right corner, you can see a “1”.
Click on the “1” and it shows the installation status
Once done, the success message will appear!
Proceed to use the VR headset and open the uDream Pro VR App with the next segment.

Finding & Opening The Downloaded
APK On Oculus Quest 2

Step 1: Click on apps in Oculus home page (see below, circled in red).

Step 2: Click on ‘All’ in the top right drop down menu. (see below, circled in red).

Step 3: Scroll down the dropdown menu until you see ‘Unknown Sources’. Click it. (see below, circled in red).

Step 4: Click on ‘uDream Pro VR’ to launch the app. (see below, circled in red).
